The dynamic STEM-designated curriculum positions students to be successful in earning coveted industry credentials including Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). Experiential learning continues to be a core foundation of the program, providing students with opportunities to gain real-world experience required as part of both the CPA and CMA examinations.

MS in Accounting Curriculum

LeBow’s accounting curriculum is propelled by Drexel’s over 100-year history of industry-based education. The 45-credit Master’s of Accounting program takes an interdisciplinary, applied approach with a focus on building deep accounting skills and knowledge, developing a student’s business acumen, and honing critical thinking, data analytics and communication skills.

Core Areas of Study

  • Accountancy: Designed to deepen accountancy skills and enable students to analyze current, complex financial transactions and issues.
  • Analytics and Technology: These give students the in-demand skills to work with data, evaluate output and share insights expected by business and accounting firms.
  • Business Acumen: Designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of business principles to position students to succeed in any industry.

Concentrations

Students can choose from three tracks to customize their learning experience.

Business Analysis, Planning and Reporting

The Business Analysis, Planning and Reporting concentration provides the theoretical framework, industry best practices and hands-on skills necessary to excel in roles such as auditor, financial analyst, budget analyst, corporate controller, treasurer, risk manager and more.

Tax Analysis and Planning

Taxation is a major focus for many accounting careers. Supplementing the business and core accounting curriculum of an MS in Accounting degree with the Tax Analysis and Planning concentration will allow graduates to take their tax-focused career to a new level for their organization or clients.

Accounting Information Systems and Controls

This concentration hones skills for this rapidly growing area of the accounting profession. It allows graduates to be the bridge that connects accounting and IT and the go-to resource every company needs to operate at a higher level. This interdisciplinary program can equip students to be the accounting professional who can lead tech-focused projects with an eye toward business goals.

Admission Requirements

Graduate admission for the MS in Accounting is based on a holistic review process, which takes into consideration prior academic history, demonstration of professional experience and adequate preparation for graduate study. MS in Accounting Admission Requirements

In addition to a completed Drexel admissions application, the minimum standards for admission are:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting from a recognized educational institution, or a bachelor’s degree that includes the following prerequisites
    • Intermediate financial accounting sequence, equivalent to Drexel’s ACCT 321, ACCT 322, ACCT 323
    • Auditing, equivalent to Drexel’s ACCT 341
    • US federal taxation (individual), equivalent to Drexel’s TAX 341
    • Statistics, equivalent to Drexel’s STAT 201 and STAT 202
    • Principles of micro and macro-economics, equivalent to Drexel’s ECON 201 and ECON 202
    • Corporate finance, equivalent to Drexel’s FIN 301
    • US business law, equivalent to Drexel’s BLAW 201
    • Management information systems, equivalent to Drexel’s MIS 200
  • A cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) from any institution attended.
  • A cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) in any junior and senior level accounting courses.
  • We recommend at least 2 to 4 years of current/previous work experience which can include internship or co-op experience in accounting or a finance related field. Candidates outside of these disciplines can be considered however we would advise to meet with an admissions representative from Graduate Admissions to have your academic and professional background evaluated for competitiveness.
  • Sincere interest in pursuing a career as an accounting/finance professional as demonstrated by a combination of work experience, prior academic experience, and application essay.
  • If student is granted admission they will be required to pay a $500 confirmation deposit to confirm their enrollment, this money will be applied to their tuition directly.
