Within fast-paced work environments\, how can\nleader s find ways to take on more of these expectations and be\nsuccessful? Breaking through\nsilos is a necessity for lead ership teams to be successful. How do\nleaders ensure they are all tied to the mission of the organization?\nHow do leaders approach lateral influen ce? The second half of the\ncourse will focus on identifying blind spots and strengths in your\nleadership approach when faced with the demands of lea ding across the\norganization.\n\nCOURSE OUTLINE\n\nSECTION ONE: UNDERSTAN DING HOW TO BREAK THROUGH SILOS BETWEEN\nFUNCTIONAL TEAMS\n\n1.1. Experien tial Exercise — The Endowed Chair Case Participate in a\ndecision-making scenario in which the group must come to a consensus\nunder a time constr aint. Communication will be challenging due to\navailability of informatio n. Group members must work through these\nchallenges to arrive at a shared recommendation.\n\n1.2. Debrief — The Endowed Chair Case Discuss your t eam’s ability\nto communicate\, with limited common information\, in ord er to arrive at\na shared group recommendation. Understand what dynamics e merged and\nhow individuals adapted their communication to influence the t eam.\nDiscuss strategies to improve your ability to exchange and absorb\ni nformation from multiple people representing different perspectives.\n\n1. 3. Experiential Exercise — Puzzle Challenge Participate in a group\nacti vity in which teams must work within and between teams in order to\ncomple te the challenge. Teams will learn to embrace systems thinking\nand adapt to a changing work environment.\n\n1.4. Debrief — Puzzle Challenge Discu ss within and between team\ndynamics the impact of systems thinking on acc omplishing goals.\nUnderstand how goals of the organizational team contrib ute to the\noverall success of the entire enterprise. Understand what dyna mics\nemerged\, how team decisions were made and how changes to the team\n environment impacted outcomes.\n\nSECTION TWO: SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIES FOR W ORKING ACROSS TEAMS\n\n2.1. Experiential Exercise Participate in a team-bu ilding activity in\nwhich the group must build a structure\, but each indi vidual has a\nsecret “assignment” which makes the collaborative proces s\nchallenging.\n\n2.2. Debrief Discuss how diversity in the team impacted your team’s\nability to work toward a common goal. Understand what dyna mics emerged\nand how individuals adapted their communication to influence the team.\nDiscuss how the team planned their approach to execute the exe rcise\nand elicit who was more influential and why.
