Datathon Overview
Drexel LeBow’s annual datathon is an analytics competition that tasks teams of graduate students with leveraging data to derive insights for an organization’s business challenge. During this one-day event, teams of graduate students turn a business problem into a series of statistical questions, design a technical approach, and use data analysis and technology skills to develop findings. Students will interact with the organization throughout the day, showcasing their skills and approaches.
At the conclusion of the datathon, teams will present their insights to a panel of judges comprising the (potential employer) and Drexel LeBow faculty, sharing data-driven insights related to the business problem, the scope of their analyses, technical challenges and overall solutions.
Students use their own laptops and are provided access to a computer lab with software applications such as SAS, R and Python. Murugan Anandarajan, PhD, professor of decision sciences and MIS, will serve as the faculty advisor overseeing the challenge.
Participant Eligibility
To be eligible to participate, team members must be currently enrolled graduate students interested or proficient in core techniques for business analytics, such as data and statistical modeling. Students are invited to form teams of 5 to 7 members and should email their team rosters to Dornella Harvey at dh3248@drexel.edu. The Center for Business Analytics will form teams for any students who would like to participate and are in need of team members.
