Samantha Ortiz and Frank Linnehan Recognized by Drexel Online

At its sixth annual National Distance Leaning Week ceremony earlier this month, Drexel University Online honored Samantha Ortiz, program manager for the online program MBA in Healthcare. She was awarded theOutstanding Online Professional Staff Award.

Ron Nordone, assistant dean for graduate programs, said the recognition was well deserved.

“Samantha brings the highest level of commitment, energy and enthusiasm every day to her students and our online programs. We receive emails regularly from our online students sharing how helpful and responsive she is. I consider myself to be a very lucky supervisor knowing that the online programs are under her management – she’s a true asset to Drexel LeBow.”

Frank Linnehan, Ph.D., interim dean, was also recognized by Drexel University Online at the ceremony. He received the Outstanding Advocate for Quality Online Instruction Award.

“Our faculty and staff’s tremendous commitment to online learning is what has built Drexel’s stellar reputation into a recognized online education leader,” said Arthur Zamkoff, co-founder and president of Drexel University Online. “Celebrating their passion and dedication at our National Distance Learning Week ceremony provides for a great opportunity to showcase their achievements.”

In a roomful of MBA students looking hesitant and perhaps a bit out of place, Samantha Ortiz jumps up when the tango instructor asks for a volunteer. While Ortiz is charged with ensuring that all 44 MBA students benefit from a well-planned residency in Buenos Aires, Argentina, demonstrating the tango is not part of her job description. But Ortiz doesn’t hesitate. Following the impressive demonstration, the instructor says in his thick accent, “You’re a dan-cer!” At least she used to be.

Experiencing Success: A Year of Continuous Improvement

The past year was one of both change and continuity for Drexel LeBow. The biggest change occurred in the dean’s office, with George P. Tsetsekos, Ph.D., stepping down after 10 years at the helm. Our former dean remains with us as the George B.
