Simon Spavound, PhD

Simon Spavound is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Decision Sciences at the LeBow College of Business. Prior to joining Drexel he was Head of Data Science at Peak, an AI company founded in Manchester, UK. He has a PhD in Economics from Lancaster University Management School in the UK. Dr. Spavound has multiple years working in industry which inform his teaching and research, primarily in applications of data science and machine learning to numerous problems across retail and manufacturing companies. This included most recently leading the creation of a US team and managing clients and team members internationally.

His primary research interests lie at the intersection of academic research and practical application - primarily in forecasting, but spanning across explainable AI (and specifically trustworthiness) and the implementation of machine learning systems by companies to aid decision making. Simon maintains strong industry links with multiple sectors, and is always keen to speak to new companies and industries looking to maximize their use of machine learning, AI and data science more generally.
