An Alternate App for Scanning QR Attendance Codes

Students may encounter an issue where a QR attendance form fails to load in their primary mobile web browser. This issue can be resolved, however, the simple workaround described here should allow the student to complete their attendance submission while still in the classroom. Students can later reach out to LeBow Instructional Tech for help with fixing the underlying problem.

Important: If the attendance form shows a loading animation in your web browser but never fully loads, the quick solution is to install another app that should load it completely. The longer term solution is to stop by the Tech Offices on the fifth floor of Gerri C LeBow Hall so that the problem with your main web browser can be resolved.

Downloading an Alternate App

We recommend installing the Firefox Web Browser app for Android or iOS since it is able to scan QR codes and should load the attendance form completely. You can download Firefox mobile using the respective app store links below:

Launching Firefox

The first time you launch the Firefox app, it will ask you a few questions such as, “Do you want to set it as the default web browser?” You can choose to skip or decline any of those options to just get to the app’s main screen. The main screen will have a web address box at the top of the page.

Scanning the Code

To scan a QR code with Firefox, look to the right of the web address textbox for a small icon that looks like a QR code. If you don’t see the QR code icon, tap into the text field for the website address, and then it should appear to the right (see image below).

Tapping that icon will start the QR scanner. Note that if this is the first time you’ve tried to scan a QR code with Firebox, you will need to give the app permission to use your phone’s camera.

Once the QR is scanned, you will then be asked to confirm that you want to open the attendance form’s web page. Once that form loads, complete your attendance submission as you normally would.

You can continue to use Firefox for remaining classes, or you can reach out to fix the issue with the form not loading in your primary web browser.

If you have questions or if you have problems loading attendance with your primary web browser, contact the Instructional Technology department at 215-895-2314 or lebowintech@drexel.edu. It might also be best to just stop by their office in the Tech suite (#542) on the 5th floor of Gerri C. LeBow Hall. Staff there can walk through the process of fixing the browser problem before your next class.
