Microsoft Remote Desktop provides a user with a graphical interface to connect to another computer (virtual or physical) over a network connection from a remote location.
Windows 10 Users
Microsoft Windows has Remote Desktop Connections pre-installed. Follow the instructions below to install the latest Remote Desktop patches.
- Open the Windows menu.
- Select the gear icon to open Windows Settings.
- Select Update & Security.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install any updates that appear, paying particular attention to any update relating to Remote Desktop Connections.
### Windows 7 Users
NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7 after January 14, 2020. If you are unable to upgrade, follow the directions below to install the latest Remote Desktop patches.
- Open the Start menu.
- Select Control Panel.
- Select System and Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Change Settings in the left-hand column.
- Verify under Recommended updates the Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates is selected.
- Select OK to return to Windows Update.
- Windows Update will automatically search for any needed updates. Install any updates that appear, paying particular attention to any update relating to Remote Desktop Connections.
### macOS Users
- Open the Apple menu and select App Store….
- Search for “Microsoft Remote Desktop 10”.
- Select Install when the application appears.
