Yellowdig has a standard point system that is automatically applied to each community. However, based on feedback from faculty and students, a series of custom settings are recommended for business courses at LeBow. These updated point-values encourage sustained participation throughout the term and make it easier for students to monitor their progress each week.
To update your Yellowdig point system to match these recommendations, follow the steps below.
Step-by-Step
- From your Yellowdig course’s left-hand navigation menu, select Settings > Point System
- Scroll down to Participation Expectation, then select Edit to adjust point-values for your course
- Select Standard (Recommended) to open the drop-down menu, then choose Custom Settings
- Below the drop-down menu, select Change Custom Point Settings. This opens the Point Configuration Setup, which contains five areas:
- Earning Window: if you have already set the start- and end- dates and times for your Yellowdig community, leave those as-is. Otherwise, use these fields to customize your start- and end-times to indicate the first and final day students should participate in Yellowdig. More information about configuring your community’s earning window can be found in the following support article: Getting Started with Yellowdig
- Periodic Target: leave this value set to 1,000 (10,000 total for a full 10-week term)
- Periodic Buffer: adjust this percentage to 20-25%, depending on how many additional points students can earn beyond the weekly maximum
-
Earning Rules: round numbers are preferred to help students keep track of their weekly contributions. The following values are recommended:
- 300 for posting (adjusted from 280)
- 40 words per post (no change)
- 200 for commenting (adjusted from 210)
- 30 words per comment (adjusted from 20)
- 100 for receiving comments (adjusted from 70)
- 20 for receiving likes (adjusted from 55)
- Points Review: review the summary on the right-hand side of the page, then click Submit Configuration to save your changes
