Dr. Alison Boyd is the Director of Research and Interpretation at the Barnes Foundation, where she explores the intersection of multiple modernisms in American and European art, with a particular focus on the arts of the African diaspora, American art, and the politics of display. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Director of the Research Master’s Program at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, teaching a wide range of topics from Global Art History to the Politics of Images.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Boyd has held several prestigious fellowships, including a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Modern and Contemporary Art at the Phillips Collection/University of Maryland’s Center for Art and Knowledge, and a Terra Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She has also been a fellow at the Max Planck Research group in Florence, Italy, the Winterthur Museum, and the Henry Luce Foundation/American Council of Learned Societies. Dr. Boyd completed her Ph.D. in Art History at Northwestern University.
