Baiada Institute Announces 2012 Business Plan Competition Winners

April 26, 2012

The Laurence A. Baiada Institute for Entrepreneurship has announced the winners of the 2012 Business Plan Competition.

First Place: NOMnivore  — $3,000

Raina Passalacqua — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Ashley Santee — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Kate Wilt — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Lauren Stahl — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

  • NOMnivore’s mission is to provide allergy free, fast, healthy, and tasty specialty snacks to students, professors, staff and visitors of Drexel University, thus eliminating the hassle of traveling to specialty food stores, going without a meal, or requesting alteration of menu items and running the risk of cross contamination.

Second Place: fNIR for Depth of Anesthesia — $2,000

Nicholas Grzeczkowski — School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems

Andrew Hall, — School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems

Chris Veale — School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems

  • Incorrect dosing of anesthesia has a great number of negative effects. Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIR) has been proven capable of determining the depth of anesthesia accurately by flashing near infrared light into the prefrontal cortex and determining the amount of reflected light to determine the deoxidization changes in the hemoglobin. This offers distinct advantages over current methods that give the fNIR system a great opportunity to penetrate the anesthesia monitor market.

Third Place: The Arsenal House — $1000

Meghan Signora — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Amanda Moorhead — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Joe Hoban — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Jon Herman — Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

  • The Arsenal House is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant that doubles as a music venue.
