About the Acorn Club
The Acorn Club was founded in 1889 and is the oldest women’s club of its kind. The club was formed as a perpetual body for the promotion of literacy, musical and artistic tastes for social enjoyments and such other kindred purposes as the club may from time to time determine.
At its inception, the club had eight charter members. Located at 1519 Locust Street, its residence for over 50 years, the club provides a gracious and welcoming environment in Center City Philadelphia. The first meeting room was a house on Pine Street and the first clubhouse was located at 1504 Walnut Street. Architect Sydney Martin designed the present clubhouse built in 1956. “Vues d’Amerique Du Nord” (Scenes of North America), produced by Jean Zuber et Cie, adorns the first-floor foyer, and the rest of the clubhouse is beautifully decorated with art acquired over the past 100 years.
